iPost seeking development director
Investigative Post is seeking a development director to help us grow our organization into the preeminent source of watchdog journalism in Buffalo and Western New York.
Investigative Post has attracted significant donor support during its two years of operation thanks in part to the quality of its journalism and the high profile it has established through a distribution network of newspapers, websites and television and radio stations that has reached a cumulative audience of 10 million viewers, readers and listeners.
Investigative Post has also developed a strategic finance plan and built a fundraising infrastructure, including a database of more than 5,000 prospects who have donated to local nonprofits and political candidates. We are seeking a development director with a proven track record who can take our fundraising efforts to the next level.
Primary duties include grant writing, raising funds from large and small donors, prospecting, securing corporate sponsorships and developing and managing a membership drive, event series and crowdfunding initiative.
As a relatively new organization, relationship building is a critical skill for our development director. Cultivating our current donors and acquiring new ones is essential to running a sustainable organization. As such, strong people skills and the ability to communicate our story to prospective donors are important. Sales skills and an entrepreneurial flair are also important.
Hours and compensation are negotiable.
Investigative Post is an equal opportunity employer.
Please respond by Jan. 31 with resume and references to Executive Director Jim Heaney at jheaney@investigativepost.org. Early submissions are encouraged. No phone calls, please.
