Geoff Kelly joins Investigative Post
Geoff Kelly, former editor of The Public and Artvoice, has joined the reporting staff of Investigative Post.
“I’m really excited to bring Geoff onboard. He’s a gifted reporter and editor and has a wealth of knowledge about the community,” said Investigative Post Editor Jim Heaney.
Kelly was a co-founder and editor of The Public, a weekly alternative newspaper launched in 2014. Prior to that, he was editor of Artvoice for 10 years, and editor of the weekly paper Pulp in Pittsburgh for two years prior.
At Artvoice and The Public, much of his reporting focused on local government and politics, as well as environmental issues. Those will be Kelly’s principal beats for Investigative Post, as well. Among his assignments will be a weekly blog entitled PoliticalPost.
The Public, which switched to biweekly publication in January of this year, will continue to publish under new leadership.
“I’m immensely proud of the work The Public has done in its four years, and grateful that work will continue,” Kelly said.
Raised in East Aurora, Kelly, 49, is a graduate of Canisius High School and Middlebury College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English.
In addition to his experience as a reporter and editor, Kelly did a stint working the other side of the fence, as senior media officer for the Qatar Foundation during two years living in the Middle East. His reporting has appeared in publications including The Buffalo News, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Boston Phoenix, San Francisco Bay Guardian, Milwaukee Shepherd-Express, Qatar Today, and Arabies Trends.
“I’m very excited to join a team that’s so committed to, and capable of, doing journalism as it ought to be done, with depth and context and an eye on making a difference,” he said.
