iPost annual fundraising drive underway

Donors can double the value of their contributions made by Dec. 31 thanks to the NewsMatch program

Investigative Post has launched its annual fundraising drive, which is critical to underwriting our reporting efforts in the coming year.

Once again, donations of up to $1,000 made by Dec. 31 will be matched by NewsMatch, funded by seven national foundations and media organizations. During last year’s annual drive, Investigative Post raised $43,883 in matchable donations from 359 contributors.

“Our goal is to top those numbers, which would enable us to expand our coverage and hopefully hire a fourth full-time reporter,” said Jim Heaney, Investigative Post’s editor and executive director.

The annual drive culminates another successful year of journalism for Investigative Post. Notable stories including an investigation into a doctor at Children’s Hospital charged by state authorities with negligence and incompetence, ongoing coverage that has exposed malfeasance by officials at the Western Regional Off Track Betting Corp., and analysis of City Hall finances that exposed reckless budgeting practices.

“We continue to produce stories that pack a punch, stories that would otherwise go unreported,” Heaney said.

As a nonprofit, Investigative Post depends on community support. While it garners significant financial support from foundations, major donors and media partners, contributions from smaller donors add up and are essential to our long-term sustainability.

Donations must be made by Dec. 31 and NewsMatch will match the first $20,000 in contributions of $1,000 or less. One-time or monthly donations are welcome.

Donors who contribute at least $100 will receive free or discounted admission to most Investigative Post events.

Donors who contribute at least $250 will receive a cartoon drawn exclusively for Investigative Post by Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Toles. For a donation of $500, Toles will autograph the cartoon. Give at least $1,000 and you’ll receive the cartoon framed and matted, along with an autograph and personal salutation from Toles.

Supporters can donate online with a credit card, or with a check mailed to Investigative Post at 487 Main St., Suite 300, Buffalo, N.Y. 14203.
