Investigative Post, Rochester D&C to share stories

The two news organizations will share selected stories of interest to their readers.

The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, owned by Gannett Co. Inc., and Investigative Post, a nonprofit investigative reporting center based in Buffalo, have entered into a content sharing agreement. The two news organizations will share selected stories of interest to their respective readers.

The two news organizations at times will publish accountability journalism created by the other. In the case of the D&C, this would include reporting created in Rochester or by the newspaper’s New York State Team.

“We’re always looking for ways to give our readers more enterprise stories, and the D&C’s reporting in upstate New York is a good source for that type of news,” said Investigative Post Editor Jim Heaney.

“We have deep respect for the Investigative Post’s reporting on accountability issues including actions taken by Western New York’s Off-Track Betting Corp.,” D&C Executive Editor Mike Kilian said. “Some of these stories will be of great interest to our readers in Rochester or at other news sites I help oversee in New York state.”

Investigative Post was founded in 2012 by Jim Heaney, a former investigative reporter with The Buffalo News. Its notable coverage includes exposing corruption in the Buffalo Billion program, and, of late, malfeasance at the Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corp. and the STAMP industrial Park, both in Genesee County.

The Democrat and Chronicle traces its roots back to the year 1833. It publishes a seven-day-a-week newspaper in Rochester and updates news daily at www.democratandchronicle.com. Its New York State Team, led by Editor Sarah Taddeo, writes of state-level and some local issues that affect readers’ lives.
