Associated Press honors iPost reporting

Investigative Post’s reporting for television and radio has been cited for excellence by the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association. A story on Eighteen Mile Creek, reported by Dan Telvock and co-produced with WGRZ TV News, won second place in the investigative category for large upstate markets. Eighteen Mile Creek in Niagara County is so polluted that the state Department of Health doesn’t want people to eat the fish caught there. It’s one of only six waterbodies in the state with such a warning. This hasn’t stopped another arm of the state, the Department of Environmental Conservation, from stocking[...]

iPost elects Biehl board president

Investigative Post has added two members to its board of directors and elected Jody Kleinberg Biehl as president. Biehl, an original member of the board dating to 2012, will fulfill the balance of the term of David Cay Johnston, who resigned citing a daunting workload as a best-selling book author, lecturer and teacher. Johnston, a former Pulitzer Prize winner with The New York Times, praised Investigative Post for its “superb work … first-rate reporters … and success in raising money.” Biehl is a faculty member in the University of Buffalo English department and director of U.B.’s journalism program.  She also serves[...]

Police misconduct voted top story of ’17

Readers have voted Daniela Porat’s story about misconduct by Buffalo police as Investigative Post’s best story of 2017. Buffalo police who cross the line, published and broadcast Sept. 20, documented how the department’s Strike Force and Housing Unit conduct illegal searches and sometimes submit dubious testimony. Defense attorneys described some officers as “vigilantes” with a “cowboy mentality.” Reported Porat: “I think they have a complete disregard for the Constitution of the United States, and most importantly, the Fourth Amendment,” said Michael Stachowski, a Buffalo defense attorney. “They just seem to roust kids in the street, chase people, and hope they[...]
